The author neither like Taliban in Afghanistan nor other Islamic forces or Mujahideen that's why one Mujahideen commander Gulbadin HikmatYar wanted to kill the author Ahmad Rashid. 

Note:- This is an old book about the Old Taliban i.e the Taliban before War on Terror. not the new Taliban of 2021.

The author Ahmad Rashid has written many false stories against the Taliban and their government but this is also correct that there were very badnesses in the Taliban's government in Afghanistan. Mr. Rashid is a journalist from Lahore, Pakistan who says in his book "Taliban" that the Taliban were against women education because they have closed many girls schools in Afghanistan but according to the Taliban they closed girls schools because of lack of buildings as many schools were earlier destroyed so they converted girls schools into boys school. Ahmad Rashid has also exposed other armed forces in Afghanistan, he has also written a story about the brutality of an Afghan commander Abdur Rashid Dostum. Once you read this book, you will then realize that the author of this book Mr. Ahmad Rashid is a fan of Ahmad Shah Masood who was martyred a few days before 9/11 in Afghanistan. The author says that he had a long experience in Afghanistan. You can call this book the history of Afghanistan.
